Patrick Norton
Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor
Patrick has enjoyed living and working in the mental health field in Birmingham, AL since 2013. After obtaining a BS in Psychology from the University of Alabama, he acquired his Master’s in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He then obtained an additional graduate certificate in Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy from UAB and is currently serving as adjunct faculty with UAB’s Counselor Education graduate program. Other certifications include National Board for Certified Counselors Certification, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, and completion of Gottman Level 1 Couples Therapy training. His internship and supervised training also included play therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. While Patrick’s current focus is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy for anxiety and depression, he also has experience with in-home counseling, providing family support for school based concerns, working with individuals with developmental disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder, and specialized parent training.
Patrick is especially passionate about providing mental health care to adolescents, young adults, professionals, parents, and couples. He has a specific interest in providing care to individuals and couples that work as professionals in the medical field. His wife is physician with Birmingham OB/GYN and completed her residency at UAB, which has provided a unique and personal perspective regarding the distinct challenges facing individuals and families in medical professions.
Outside of counseling, Patrick enjoys spending time at Smith Lake with his wife and son, woodworking, video games, golfing, and playing the drums.
