Associate Licensed Counselor; Under the Supervision of Joshua Miller,LPC-S

Jared obtained his BA from Auburn University in Psychology and Sociology with a minor in Philosophy. These together seemed to constitute a Counseling degree but, just to be sure, Jared earned his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, along with a certificate in Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy. He is currently a practicing Associate Licensed Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor under the supervision of Joshua Miller, LPC-S

Jared’s experience in the mental health field is varied, including victim outreach, crisis intervention, serious mental illness, case management, and work with individuals with developmental disabilities. His current focus is on anxiety, depression, adjustment, grief, and trauma. He has a special interest in psychotherapy for chronic illnesses, humor and philosophy in counseling, motivation, and providing care for other professionals in helping fields.

In therapy, Jared utilizes a Cognitive-Behavioral approach that focuses on the interactions between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Additionally, Jared’s sessions tend to be solutions-focused and systems-informed with a particular emphasis on how we (humans!) make meaning in a world that can be chaotic and challenging. This meaning-making usually takes the form of Narrative therapy: working to understand the story we tell about our experiences.

In his free time, Jared enjoys listening to and making music, cooking, playing video games, reading, writing, rock climbing, and spending time with his corgi, Oliver.
